shoe fairies!

The Fabulous Fairy Footwear class on Saturday was such fun, the designers came back Sunday morning to finish off their creations:

The designers went to town embellishing their footwear with wild colors, embroidery and silk flowers

When the shoes were finished, the girls wrote notes to the fairy who built a house on the path outside my studio...
Maybe the fairies will write back!

Hey! Come see me, along with my good friend Gretchen Boylan, at the 11th Annual Alberta Art Hop...click here for all the details.
The weather promises to be fabulous, the street will be closed to traffic between 11 am and 6 pm, and there will be lots of entertainment on multiple stages and hundreds of artists and craftspeople there.

I've been busy making so many of these one of a kind, teeny tiny fairy shoes and dresses, I think my eyesight is beginning to go!

And Gretchen will have magical jewelry and assemblages like this:

So come and see us, we're be on NE Alberta Street between 19th and 20th Avenue, on the south side of the street, booth number 08!

fairy shoes

I have a show coming up this weekend, and I've been working my fingers to the bone making gowns and outfits for the fairy folk...scroll down to see a little preview...

These teeny shoes belong to a flower fairy named what else, but Lily...She's from Bolivia, and helps pollinate the gorgeous fields of flowers destined to be included in arrangements sent all over the world. (She loves to travel!)

Here's a gown designed for Princess Hydrangea, a lovely and enchanting flower fairy who delights in dancing in the meadow at sunset. Her soft slippers are embellished with dried beauty berries.

fairy godmothers and other friends

A few days ago Gay from the lovely blog, I Dreamed I Saw included my Autumn Fairy Gown in her post Tiny Things, Big Party!

fairy seasons

I've been working on some new gowns for those demanding fairies, because apparently there are lots of seasonal Fairy Events that require new ensembles...

like the Autumnal Masquerade Ball...

and the Winter Solstice Soiree.

I'll have limited edition prints of these gowns available in the etsy shop this weekend, and stay tuned for the Spring and Summer styles, coming next week!

new fairy couture

Some new fairy dresses I'm working on for the fall collection...

this one was inspired by a dress worn by Claudette Colbert
in a 1930s movie I can't remember the name of.
Fittingly, it's for a Parisian garden fairy named Claudette.
The bodice is composed of guinea fowl feathers and down,
with cap sleeves and brooch of poppy pods, and a slim, pencil skirt of paper birch.

Here's a frothy, floaty, sensual dress with a skirt and top of hibiscus flowers, trimmed with gladiola petals and tiny blossoms. It was commissioned by Sofia, a flower fairy from Tuscany.
They'll both be available for purchase in the Camp Cactus etsy shop on Tuesday.

peacock feathers and fuzzy slippers

Here's a new Fairy Closet. It belongs to Pari, a playful flower fairy from India. (Whew...say that three times, fast!) You can read all about it in the etsy shop.

The studio remodel is coming along slowly, but steadily. I have a lot of drywall finishing to do before I can paint (maybe the fairies could help), but I'll post pictures in a day or so!

newly arrived fairies

More and more fairies are showing up for the Fairy Festival on Mt. Hood...and some of them have gotten quite rowdy! I've had to set up an impromptu photo studio in the dining room today, as they're all in a tizzy about having photos to autograph for their adoring fans. I'll be posting those tomorrow.

Here are some shots of Imelda and Morgana's closets while you're waiting. They'll also be in my etsy shop later today.

more fairy fashion!

Here's a gown created for Morgana, a Forest fairy. The skirt is composed of pheasant feathers, with a bodice of American Beech leaves and a waistline encircled with red raffia and
peris japonica blossoms.

Just in case you think the boy fairies aren't interested in fashion...here's a suit designed specially for Padraic, an Irish Hill fairy who loves to show off his fancy footwork at
those moonlight River Dances.

And last, but not least, here are Imelda's favorite shoes: (much larger than actual size)

See you at the Fairy Gathering!

fairy couture

Quite a few fairies have dropped in to the studio lately, and a few of them asked if I'd design them some new outfits. It seems there's a Spring Fairy Festival up on Mt. Hood very soon, near the tiny town of Rhododendron, and needless to say, the local fairies are quite excited to show off the neighborhood to fairies from around the planet.

I don't know what I was thinking when I said yes. I have a show coming up in two weeks, and I need to keep working on my inventory.  Plus my studio is all torn up at the moment, so I'm working in the basement. (More on that soon)
Anyway, I'm beginning to suspect a fairy spell has come over me, because all I can think about lately is fairy couture!

Little piles of leaves and fairy ephemera have been appearing on my doorstep, and every time I go for a walk with the pups I come back with my pockets full of stuff.

Here's is the first piece I designed. It's a little sundress for Imelda, a garden fairy.  The skirt and bodice are of preserved sessile oak leaves, with a scalloped, asymmetrical hemline and crossed straps of miscanthus sinesis (a grass).  The waist is accentuated with a bamboo belt embellished with a rosehip and hop petal clasp. (Wait till you see her shoes!)

The next piece is a sweet and saucy little number with a swingy, swirly oak leaf skirt trimmed at the waist with a ruffle of blue hydrangea petals. The translucent birch bark bustier is embellished in just the right places with hydrangea petals. It will be worn by Willow, a forest fairy, who loves to dance in the woods.

Check back tomorrow to see what I came up with for Buttercup, the Meadow Fairy!
